Glossary

 

Status: 

Under 16: Any dancer under the age of 16

Amateur: Any dancer not receiving money as compensation for dancing or teaching a genre of his or her division.

Amateur 50+: Any Amateur dancer of age 50 or more.

Amateur 70+: Two Amateur dancers with combined age of 70 or more.

Pro Am: Professional dancer(s) with Amateur dancer(s) in 1 to 1 ratio.

Pro Am 70+: Professional dancer(s) with Amateur dancer(s) in 1 to 1 ratio with combined age of 70 or more for every Professional and Amateur pair.

Semi Pro: Any dancer with a “day job” as main source of income & dance as a part time income.

Pro: Any dancer who makes a living from dance as a full time income.

Judge: Any Pro Dancer or Stage Performer judging based on ELDGP Dance Rules.

 

Number of dancers:

Soloist: Single dancer. Competes against other Soloists.

Couple: 2 dancers of mixed gender (1 Female and 1 Male) dancing as leader & follower 70% of time. Competes against other Couple's.

Duo: 2 dancers of same gender (both Female or both Male) dancing as leader & follower or side by side 70% of time. Competes against Duo's.

Team: 3 or more dancers ( except Pro-Am Team needs to be a minimum of 4 dancers ) Competes against other Teams.

 

Gender:

Female

Male

Co-Ed: Male(s) and Female(s)

 

Divisions:

Accepted Dance Genres within your Status, Number of Dancers & Gender:

Bachata, Cabaret, Chacha, Kizomba, Merengue, Salsa On1, Salsa On2, Zouk.

Cabaret is open to only Pro dancers.

 

Round: 

Any opportunity to compete at an event in order to move on to the Semi-Finals.

 

Tricks: 

A trick is a dip, flare, slide, any hand connection which requires or gives the illusion of balance assistance. At all times one foot has to remain on the floor except for Cabaret division.

 

Assignment: 

Timing, Interpretation, Choreography, Connection, Synchronisation, Penalty 

 

Measurable: 

Based on factual movements: Timing, Connection, Synchronisation, Penalty

 

Appreciation: 

Based on a personal preference in movements & Artistic appreciation: Interpretation, Choreography 

 

Awards:

Maximum possibility of awards: Certificate of participation or medal or trophy or cash or cash for private lessons with your teacher.

Pro: 1st, 2nd, 3d place trophies to overall highest points

Amateur: 1st, 2nd, 3d place trophies to overall highest points

 

Accredited:

School which has been officially invited to participate going straight to Finals & is in good standing with the ELDGP. Accredited schools have the authority to invite any school of their choice.
